Did you know you could receive a scholarship simply for choosing welding training? That’s right. Several organizations offer financial aid to help students fund their welding education.

TWS Scholarship Requirements:

  • Before you can apply for a welding scholarship, you must meet all regular admissions requirements and be scheduled to start welding training.
  • You will be placed in a class or shift based on availability. A welding scholarship can’t be transferred from one shift or program to another.
  • If you change your school start date, you could lose the scholarship.

American Welding Society Scholarships

Founded in 1919, the American Welding Society (AWS) is a nonprofit organization where their mission is to further the technology, science and application of welding, cutting, soldering, brazing and thermal spraying. The AWS works to advance the welding industry through action and thought.

The organization strives to encourage new generations to seek careers in welding through certifications, publications, conferences and scholarships.i The foundation awards more than $1 million in scholarships to welding students each year.ii

  • American Welding Society Welder Training Scholarship ($1,000)

    What is it?

    • A scholarship for students in welding training at a trade school. Each of the AWS’ 22 Districts has 25 scholarships to offer in 2021. The award amount for each scholarship is $1,000.

    When is it?

    • Students attending welding school or training before May 2022. Applications are accepted from December through November. Candidates are chosen on a rolling basis until the District distributes the funds
      for that year.
    • If you apply before November 30, you could qualify for funds from the remaining calendar year. Applying after November 30 may qualify you for funds distributed in the following calendar year.

    Who can apply?

    1. Only students planning on attending a welding training program, like those at TWS, for up
      to two years. This scholarship cannot be used towards a 4-year program.
    2. You must live in one of the AWS’ 22 Districts.iii See Map.
    3. Section officers and their families do not qualify.
    4. Section Selection Committee members and their families are not eligible.iv

  • American Welding Society National Scholarship ($2,000 - $6,000)

    What is it?

    • Donor-funded scholarships for students planning on earning a bachelor’s or associate degree in welding, like the degree TWS offers, or a related discipline. More than 60 scholarships are available. Award amounts are a minimum of $1,000 annually for students earning an associate degree in welding.

    When is it?

    • The AWS National Scholarship Deadline is March 1. Students must apply by this date to be
      considered for the following fall term.

    Who can apply?

    1. Students seeking a welding or welding-related degree at an accredited 4-year or 2-year
      university, college or trade school.
    2. AWS membership may be necessary. Visit the AWS Student Membership page.
    3. Applicants’ financial need may also be consideredv.

  • American Welding Society District Scholarship ($500 - $2,000)

    What is it?

    • Scholarships for students planning on earning a bachelor’s degree, welding associate degree, like the one at TWS, or a certificate in one of the AWS’ 22 Districts (See Map). Scholarships typically range from $1,000 to $2,500+.

    When is it?

    • The deadline for the AWS District Scholarship is March 1 for those sending their applications to the AWS Foundation office. Awards are typically made from May to June and the funds distributed the following fall term.

    • Local AWS members, donors and companies fund scholarships for students in their AWS Section. Award amounts range from $1,000 to $3,000 or more.vi

  • High School Equivalency Program (HEP) Estimated Range of Awards: $180,000-$475,000.

    What is it?

      ORO Development Corporation's High School Equivalency Program (HEP) is funded by U.S. Department of Education. ORO will support eligible migrant and seasonal farmworkers students that resides in the State of Oklahoma to enroll in a General Education Development (GED) instructional program:

      • Outreach and recruitment
      • Educational services
      • Supportive services
      • Financial assistance

      to further aid their pursuit in higher education and upgrade their employment or enroll in the military.

    When is it?

    • Opens: November 27, 2020
    • Closes: January 22, 2021

    Who can apply?

    Under section 418A(b)(1) of the HEA2 and 34 CFR 206.3(a) and (b), an individual is eligible to participate in a HEP project if he or she:

    • Has, or has at least one immediate family member who has, spent a minimum of 75 days during the past 24 months as a migrant or seasonal farmworker (34 CFR 206.3(a)(1)); or
    • Is eligible to participate, or has participated within the past 24 months, in the MEP or the NFJP (see questions G1-G12 regarding participant eligibility under 34 CFR 206.3(a)(2)); and
    • Has not have earned a secondary school diploma or its equivalent (34 CFR 206.3(b)(1)); and
    • Is not be currently enrolled in an elementary or secondary school (34 CFR 206.3(b)(2)); and
    • Is 16 years of age or over, or beyond the age of compulsory school attendance in the State in which he or she resides (34 CFR 206.3(b)(3)); and
    • Is determined by the grantee to need the academic and supporting services and financial assistance provided by the project in order to attain the equivalent of a secondary school diploma and to gain employment or be placed in an institution of higher education (IHE) or other postsecondary education or training (34 CFR 206.3(b)(4)).

The Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International, (FMA) Nuts, Bolts and Thingamajigs Scholarship

The Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International, (FMA) was founded in 1970 and is a professional organization with more than 2,500 individual and company members from the metal fabricating and equipment manufacturing industries.

Its mission is to champion for the growth and sustainability of the North American metal forming, processing and fabricating industries through technology councils, educational programs and scholarships and the FABTECH trade show.viii

  • The Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International, (FMA) Nuts, Bolts and Thingamajigs Scholarship ($3,500 maximum)

    What is it?

    • Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs (NBT) is a scholarship for students seeking degrees that will lead to careers in manufacturing. Award amounts can range from $1,500 to $2,500.ix

    When is it?

    Application Process Opens July 1, 2021 and Closes September 30, 2021

    Who can apply?

    • Students who are entering or currently enrolled in a degree or certificate program that could lead to a career in manufacturing.
    • Enrollment must be full-time (12 or more credit hours per semester).
    • If attending a trade school, the student must have a 2.5 GPA. University students must hold a 3.0 GPA.xi

SME Education Foundation Scholarship

SME created the SME Education Foundation in 1979 to inspire, prepare and support students pursuing manufacturing careers at every level. Since its founding, the group has provided more than $33 million in awards, grants and scholarships. The group has also partnered with foundations, corporations, organizations and individual donors to support student education and outreach programs.xv

  • SME Education Foundation Scholarship

    What is it?

    • The SME Education Foundation scholarship is for students pursuing an associate degree in manufacturing engineering technology or a closely related field at an accredited trade school. Between $1,000 and $6,000 is awarded for tuition, books or course/lab fees.xvi

    When is it?

    • The deadline for the SME Education Foundation scholarship was on February 1, 2021.
    • Registered students will be notified in September to get ready for the 2021/2022 school year application process starting in November.

TWS High School Senior Welding Competition Weld-to-Win Scholarship

Two welders founded Tulsa Welding School in 1949, and we’ve been preparing men and women for skilled trades careers ever since. In keeping with this tradition, TWS holds a welding competition for high school seniors each year. The school awarded more than $245,000 in scholarships and prizes last year.     What is it?

    • A welding competition for high school seniors who’ve completed a class in welding at a vocational school or in high school. A full tuition scholarship to TWS is the grand prize. A $500 tuition scholarship is awarded to TWS for everyone who participates.

The National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA) Foundation Scholarship

The National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA) strives to introduce the benefits and features of precast concrete products to foster a more educated specifying community. To advance this mission, the group has been awarding scholarships to students pursuing construction-related, architectural and civil engineering educational paths since 1989xvii

  • The National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA) Foundation Scholarship ($2,500 Maximum)

    What is it?

    • A scholarship for college students or high school seniors pursuing careers related to the
      precast concrete industry. First-year award amounts are up to $2,500. Students who complete internships with NPCA members each additional year may qualify for higher award amounts during those years.

    When is it?

    • The deadline for the National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA) Foundation Scholarship application was April 2, 2021. Check back at the website for next year’s deadline.

    Who can apply?

    • Students who will be enrolled in a certificate program during the next academic year following the application deadline.
    • The student must be studying a field related to the precast concrete or building
