Tulsa Welding School Jacksonville Establishes AWS Student Chapter

Summary: Tulsa Welding School Jacksonville has announced a new student chapter of the American Welding Society (AWS) hosted on campus.

In December, Tulsa Welding School Jacksonville started a new student chapter of the American Welding Society (AWS). This chapter consists of students and staff who are current members of AWS. Students who attend the welding programs at TWS are automatically enrolled in a one-year membership to AWS.

AWS is partnering with TWS by providing the charter, certified membership, a set of AWS manuals, and funding to open a nonprofit bank account. Part of the activities planned includes field trips, philanthropic activities, and fundraising initiatives. According to Academic Dean, Dion Thornhill, “this is an excellent opportunity for us to become more involved in the community, attract students, and attract industry professionals from around the United States. We are now associated with an elite group of over 49,000 welding professionals operating out of 170 districts and sections worldwide.” As chapter members, students are eligible to receive scholarships, can hold leadership positions, and are given the opportunity to network with the AWS community of industry professionals nationwide. Initially, board members will be TWS faculty and staff, but as the chapter grows the positions will be assumed by TWS students.

 Initial board members:

Jack Dulls, Director of Welding Training – Chairman
