TWS Welding Competition Video
HANDS-ON TRAINING
Unlike typical higher education, TWS students spend much of their time working hands-on. Starting the second day of welding instruction you will be in the welding booth. The only way to master welding is to do a lot of welding. If you're taking the Professional Welder program, you can graduate in just 7 months and have the skills necessary to enter the workforce as a professional, entry level welder.
Electro-Mechanical Technologies students also have hands-on training combined with the kind of textbook study necessary for this kind of technical career. By the end of the program graduates have a well rounded education with both the technical knowledge and hands-on training that helps them to become qualified hvac/r technicians.
Successful TWS students typically:
- Enjoy working with their hands
- Are very visual
- Want to increase their earning potential.

Why Hands-on Welding Experience is so Important
Becoming an expert welder is not something you can do by just reading a text book. It requires years of practice and thousands of man hours of hands on experience. There are many subtle aspects of welding that one can only learn by practicing on a regular basis. Luckily there are a number of well experienced welders that are willing to help a novice with their early welding experience.
Once you have the right tools and a clean surface learning to weld properly will come down to practice. By doing the welds over and over again you will learn what does and does not work. Many of these things will require a sense of touch and observations that only experience can provide. Reading about what is and is not a bad weld in a book is a great way to reference real world experience, but in no way shape or form can it replace the actual work of doing the welds. By practicing over and over again you will come to learn how to weld properly. Augmenting this with help from a seasoned professional and good reference material will help to make you the best welder possible in the least amount of time.
