Welding Business Starting to See a Rebound
The results from a recent poll by the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, International, show that there is an increase in business being reported by a number of respondents.
41% of the people who answered said that their business is picking up. This response was 26 percentage points ahead of the next closest results. There were three results tied at 15%, one of which was "My company has suffered minimally or not at all from the recession." These responses are very encouraging to anyone interested in entering into the field of welding.
Behind the Numbers
Digging deeper into the numbers, the sectors of the economy that have not been much affected by the recession include a range of operations including one man welding shops and global companies. One of the factors that kept them from feeling the crunch of the recession is the market they are in. Companies that work with aerospace, defense, energy, medical, and infrastructure typical have been able to continue business as usual during economic downturns. Fortunately, welding plays a vital role in many of these markets.
It may come as a surprise, but according to a couple survey respondents, working for a car manufacturer has had little to no effect on their business. These respondents worked for Hyundai and General Motors, respectively. Hyundai has been increasing its market share recently, and though General Motors had to restructure their production process, there are still welders that are receiving consistent work from them.
