Why make the Career Change from Truck Driver to Welder
Driving a truck for a living can be very stressful, and it is possible to switch in a number of other careers with a little training. Truck drivers who are looking for a career change might ponder several options. For the truck driver interested in a job that offers something different, a welding career could be a good option.
What is Welding Like?
Welding is the process of joining metal pieces together using a welding gun that usually melts a consumable electrode to join pieces of metal together. Welding is used in all types of manufacturing processes. Automobiles and ships are just a couple items that are manufactured using welding. Bridges are welded as well as framing and beams used in construction. Indoors and outside, there are plenty of projects that require welders.
Why Should I Switch to Welding?
Working as a welder holds a number of benefits over being a truck driver. If you work as a line haul or over the road driver your work requires you to spend some nights and weekends on the road away from home. This time is spent either alone or with a driving partner (who will probably be sleeping most of the time that he or she isn’t driving), and this can put a strain on relationships with family and friends.
Additionally, driving a truck day after day can get pretty tiresome. No one enjoys getting stuck in traffic, and as a truck driver there’s a good chance you’ll be spending some time stuck in traffic. Plus, since trucks have lower visibility of what is in front of them, driving in traffic can be especially tricky because cars will pull right in front of you and it’s hard to see exactly where they are.
